Career Fair at MECIT, April 28, 2010

Placement & Industry Relations Unit at MECIT is organizing the second Career Fair on 1st and 2nd of May 2010 from 9am-1pm & 2pm-5pm at Sports Hall . Various companies from across different domains will be participating in the Fair. The career Fair is open to all current students, MECIT graduates and MECIT alumni. 7th Annual Graduation Ceremony, April 11, 2010

MECIT conducted its 7th annual Graduation ceremony on 11th April 2010 under the auspices of H. E. Eng. Ahmed Hassan Al Dheeb, Undersecretary, Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Commerce and Industry at Oman Auditorium, Al Bustan Palace Hotel, Muscat. The event was attended by dignitaries from Partner University, press and various other organisations, students and staff members. This Graduation ceremony was a unique one to the MECIT family as it saw the first batch of MBA (IT) graduants receiving their awards along with other students on various programmes.
The ceremony started with Mr. Aswin John, Registrar of the college leading the traditional graduation procession to the auditorium. It was then followed by recitation of Holy Quran by one of the students, Majid Al Balushi.
Dr. T.R Narayanan, Dean of MECIT delivered an inspirational introductory speech in which he congratulated the graduates on their success and wished them all the very best for a bright future. He appreciated the staff members for their valuable contribution towards providing an enhancing experience for the student community at MECIT. He then expressed thanks to the academic partner, Coventry University for their whole hearted support and commitment towards achieving the academic goals. He emphasised on MECIT’s commitment towards providing quality education and stressed on the foundation of its values: Quality, Diversity, Transparency, Respect, and Commitment that guide the college community’s decisions and actions including desire for excellence, belief in the richness of diverse cultures and backgrounds, emphasis on fairness and dignity in all circumstances, and passion for the community at large.
Professor Donald Pennington, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University felicitated the graduating students and conferred the awards for Undergraduates and Postgraduate students. In his felicitation speech, Professor congratulated the students on their success and expressed his happiness on the strong academic and professional link between MECIT and Coventry University.
In a response speech from student graduates, student representatives from both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels expressed their gratitude towards all those who contributed towards achieving their goals. The awards for the Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes were presented by honourable Chief Guest, H. E. Eng. Ahmed Hassan Al Dheeb. He also presented the awards for the best outgoing students. The award for the best outgoing Undergraduate student was won by Ahmed Said Masaaod Al Shukaili and the award for the best outgoing Postgraduate student was won by Suad Abdullah Zahir Al Is'haqi.

Orphans day at MECIT, April 5, 2010

MUSCAT The Middle East College of Information Technology (MECIT) organised its fourth Orphans Day on its campus in Knowledge Oasis Muscat on Monday.

The programme was inaugurated under the auspices of Her Highness Dr Muna Bint Fahd Al Said, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for External Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University.

Shama Mohammed, leading Omani actress and film personality, as well as other activists, dignitaries, including diplomats from different countries were present at the charity event.

Sarah Al Iqbalia of MECIT said that the college accorded importance to the annual event which was now in its fifth year. She said that the student community played a major role in organising the event highlighting the importance of orphans in Islam. She said that the annual event was just an effort to cultivate a feeling of compassion, brotherhood and commitment in students for society at large.

Shama Mohammed told Oman Tribune that she felt privileged to be present in the programme. She said that the event just remind us of our roles in society as well as the much required support to the orphans who enjoy respect and
special position in our society.

She said that the potential of orphans and their contribution to the society cannot be ignored. It is our duty to support them with whatever we have as contribution, she said.

The ‘Orphans Day’, organised for raising fund for orphans, showcased various art works as well as entertainment and cultural activities. Over 300 children participated in the programme.

No Smoking in College premises, April 3, 2010

Smoking is prohibited inside MECIT premises as per law (Section 3 and 4 of the newly passed law 2010/33). Designated smoking zones have been provided on campus away from the building. Students under 18 years of age will not be permitted in the smoking zones. Security personnel in the college will oversee that the stipulated law is not violated. We request all MECIT-ians to abide by the rule.
