Research @ MECIT
Research goal: To engage in research that aligns with and informs institutional practices.
In line with the mission as well as the goal, Research needs to become a pervasive activity at MECIT. In an effort to imbibe a research culture at MECIT, the Postgraduate Studies and Research department would like to propose the follows:
Provide seed money of RO. 150.000 for a maximum of 20 research proposals from staff members to initiate individual/group research work and generate working papers. We will actively support group research and involvement of students in the research. The seed amount limit could be enhanced to a maximum of RO 200 for group proposals. The staff members will subsequently be supported to source external funds to further pursue their research.
Scope of Research
- Applied Research that contributes to our Teaching and Learning processes.
- Applied research that informs the other institutional practices of MECIT.
- Applied research of local and national significance relevant to the community served by MECIT and related to its professional practice.
- Applied research that does not require substantial capital cost resources.
- Consultancy and the provision of facilities and services to external organisations.
- External funding to support activities, projects or near-market research and development supported by Oman Research Council, Government of Oman/its agencies, external research funds and other private, public, voluntary or charity sector organisations.
A proposal has to be submitted. The format for submission of proposal is circulated. It is proposed that individuals can apply for 1 individual proposal and 1 group proposal.
The staff members have to complete the research based on the preliminary study and come up with a working paper. The working papers are made available for readership on the website [existing MECIT website with a link]. Posters published for working papers / research undertaken shall be displayed in designated spaces for viewership of students and fellow colleagues at MECIT as well as the MECIT conference.
A committee comprising the Dean, Director-Postgraduate Studies and Research and an External Expert shall take a decision on the selection of the paper for sponsorship purposes.
Evaluation criteria used to assess merits of proposals: The general framework to evaluate proposals may be based on a series of five indicators:
- Importance and significance of the research given the scope of research@MECIT
- Research methodology
- Nature of research- individual, group, inter-disciplinary
- Role of students
- Action Plans
