Dr. ABDUL HUQ M ABDUL WAHHAB is Professor and Head of the Department. He received the degrees of B Sc., M Sc., M Phil, and Ph D in Statistics, with Mathematics and Computer Science as allied subjects, from the University of Madras, India. With 34years of experience in research and teaching in India, Malaysia, and the Sultanate of Oman, he has taught many modules in Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science and supervised the research work of M Sc., M Phil, and Ph D students. He is the coordinator of Advanced Calculus and Medical Statistics modules. His publications include “Segmentation of Long Indus Texts: a Dynamic Programming Approach”, in Computers and Humanities, “Stochastic Puzzle Grammars” in the International Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition, and “VDM Specification of an Algorithm for Graph Decomposition” in the Journal of Digital Information Management. He has co-authored books in Computer Science and Indian Mathematics. He has presented papers in several international conferences. His areas of research interest include Theoretical Computer Science, Pattern Recognition, and Mathematics Education. He is a member of Royal Statistical Society and Mathematical Association of America.
Dr. R D Senthil Kumar, Assistant Head of Department, is currently Assistant Professor in the Department since June 2006. He is the Module Coordinator for Calculus and Numerical Methods as well as Engineering Physics and also the coordinator of Math Referral Centre. In the last twelve dynamic years of research and teaching, he has coordinated a workshop on “Recent Trends in Spectroscopy” in Tamil Nadu, India, which attracted many scholars of the region. He has given seminars on “Liquid Crystal and its application” and “Tablet PC: A tool for lecturing with digital ink” to the members of faculty at MECIT. He has supervised research projects of junior scientists who were pursuing Master of Science and Master of Philosophy (Physics) degrees. During the same period he has authored ten research articles and published/presented in various international journals and conferences held at various countries including Brunei, UAE and USA. Although these research papers are mainly on Environmental Pollution (Water & Soil contamination and radiation), he has diverse interests in using ICT successfully in teaching Physics, Mathematics and Statistics subjects. Currently he is involved in research in the fields of Applied Spectroscopy and Environmental physics. Dr. Senthil Kumar has his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Physics and M.Sc. (Physics) from Annamalai University, India. He takes much pride in being a Fellow of the International Congress on Chemistry and Environment. He is also a Member of American Physical Society and Life member of Indian Spectrophysics Association.
AMAL S AL-AMRI is a Faculty in the Department. She has a Bachelor of Science (Business Statistics) degree from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman and a Master of Statistics degree from the University of Wollongong (UOW), NSW, Australia, and, in addition, a Certification in “Introduction to SAS course” from the Center of Statistical and Research Methodology, UOQ, Australia and a Diploma in Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), First Level, Center of Creative Development, Oman. She is the coordinator for the Descriptive Statistics Module. The research paper on “Numerical solution of differential equation using Excel” which she co-authored, has appeared in the Proceedings of the Annual Conference for Middle East Teachers of Mathematics, Science and Computing ( METSMaC 2007). She was involved in a project “Statistical Analysis of Omanization Improvement (1999-2002) in Hotels, Banking &Insurance Activities”, Ministry Of National Economy and “Statistical Analysis of Family Relationship in Omani Society”, Ministry of Social Development. Her area of research is Survey Research Methodology
ALYA AL FARSI is Faculty in the Department. She has a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. Currently, she is studying for PG Certificate in Higher Education offered by Coventry University, UK. She is the coordinator for the Foundation Mathematics I Module. Her research interest is in Hyper-geometric series.
FATHIYA KHAMIS AL RAWAHI has been teaching since 2005. With a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) degree from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman, she is currently pursuing PG Cert. in Higher Education , Coventry University, U.K. She has been coordinating the College Mathematics module. The research papers that she had coauthored are Production of phenylacetic acid derivatives and 4-epiradicinol in culture by Curvularia lunata , published in Phytochemistry, Elsevier Ltd and Microsoft Excel in the Mathematics Classroom: A Case Study as well as Numerical Solution of Differential Equations Using Excel in the Proceedings of the Annual Conference for Middle East Teachers of Mathematics, Science and Computing (METSMaC 2006 and METSMaC 2007). For her research she is interested in Numerical Methods and Organic chemistry.
Moza Said Al Hashmi is a Faculty in the Department. She has a Bachelor of Science (Mathematics) from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman. She is interested in continuing her studies further in Statistics.
NABILA AHMED SAKIDAD AL-BELUSHI is a Lab Technician. She has a Bachelor of Science (Statistics) from Sultan Qaboos University, Oman in addition to Cambridge International Diploma in Information Technology Skills. She plans to specialize in Statistical Inference with special reference to Uniformly unbiased minimum variance estimator.
Sudhagar, C. is currently working as a Faculty. He received the degrees of M.Sc.,, M Phil., M.Ed., PGDCA and is currently doing Ph.D., in Fuzzy Optimization. In the last thirteen dynamic years of research and teaching, he has coordinated many Student symposia. He has presented papers in national and international conferences which are published in the Conference proceedings. He has co-authored a book “Advanced Operations Research for the Management”. His areas of research include Cryptography, Optimization Techniques, Fuzzy Mathematics and Mathematics Education. He is a member of Indian Science Congress and Forum for Interdisciplinary Mathematics. He was involved in a project “Allocation of Construction Instruments in Fuzzy Environment” supported by SRMU. He attended many National and International seminars and workshops related to Mathematics and teaching Methodologies.
Mrs. Satinder Bhatia is an alumnus of the Delhi University from where she secured her Bachelors and Masters (Previous) Degrees in Mathematics (Honours). She has completed her Bachelor of Education degree from Punjab University. She has 18 years of experience in teaching Mathematics and Statistics. She has also attended many seminars and training programs related to Mathematics and education. She is the Module leader of Foundation Mathematics Levels 2 and 3.
VINU P is a postgraduate in Physics. He completed his Bachelor in Physics from Marthoma College, Chungathara, affiliated to Calicut University. After the completion of bachelor degree, he joined Pondicherry University for his post graduate studies. He completed his Masters in physics in the year 2000 with the specialization, Laser Physics. During this period he Participated in the “Workshop on Industrial and Medical Applications of Lasers, WIMAL- 2000” organized by the International School of Photonics, Cochin University of Science & Technology in 2000. His M. Sc project was on A. C Magnetic Susceptibility of Ferromagnetic Substance. He has six years of teaching experience at the college level. He has worked as a programme officer of National Service Scheme, Calicut University, South India. In this time he attended the State Level Workshop on “Disaster Management” organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India. He also attended the “Orientation Training Course” for the Programme Officers of the National Service Scheme, organized by the NSS, Training and Orientation Centre, Kerala. He also participated in the “Global Youth Meet on Climate Change” organized by NSS, University of Calicut in association with OISCA – International, South India Chapter.
Zainab AL-Kharousi is a Faculty. She has a Bachelor degree major in Physics from Sultan Qaboos University, College of Science. She loves to travel and discover new places.
