In April, 2006, The Centre for British Teachers (CfBT) was invited to validate the existing Foundation English Programme. This was done to strengthen the Foundation Programme in order to help students achieve desired levels of proficiency in the language. The validation programme comprised two main parts. The first involved a series of classroom observations across various teaching departments, interactions with students and tutors, plus consultations with the administration. The second was an ESL workshop conducted for members of staff of the Languages Centre.
In February 2009, a Communicative Methodology Teacher Training Course was conducted by CfBT for Languages Centre faculty with a view to improving the quality of material design for Foundation and Degree modules; implementing modern methodologies into classroom activities; creating new modules for Degree Programme students; improving assessment quality at all levels in Foundation and Degree modules; and effectively integrating Communicative Method of language teaching into all existing modules, as well as new modules.
From the academic year 2010-2011, the Foundation Programme will be structured on a three-semester model, and will be in complete alignment with the Oman Academic Standards for General Foundation Programmes.
